How Much Laundry Detergent Should You Use? (Dosing Guide & Signs of Overuse)
Use less detergent than the bottle recommends to prevent stiffness, musty smells, and washer buildup. Most standard laundry loads only require 1 to 2 tablespoons of liquid detergent.

Dosing Guidelines
• Standard Loads (Liquid): Use 1 to 2 tablespoons (roughly up to the first line on most measuring caps).
• Large or Heavily Soiled Loads: Increase to 3 tablespoons. Anything more will not rinse out properly.
• Detergent Pods: Use 1 pod for regular loads and 2 pods only for extra-large, heavily filled drums. Always place the pod in the bottom of the drum before adding clothes so it dissolves fully.
Common Signs of Overuse
• Stiff or scratchy clothes: Excess soap gets trapped in the fabric fibers during the rinse cycle.
• Musty washing machine smell: Leftover suds create a slimy film (scrud) inside the drum that breeds mold.
• White residue or spots: Visible chalky marks left on dark clothes after they dry.
Optimization Tips
• Measure, don't pour: Never free-pour directly from the bottle into the dispenser drawer. Use a dedicated measuring spoon or the cap lines.
