How to Clean Your Washing Machine

Elevate Your Laundry Game

Cleaning your washing machine is essential to ensure it functions effectively and to prevent odours and bacteria build-up. Here's how to clean your washing machine:

Materials Needed

- White vinegar

- Baking soda

- Microfiber cloth or sponge

- Old toothbrush

- Hot water

Steps

1. Empty the Washing Machine: Remove any clothing or items from the washing machine drum.

2. Clean the Dispenser Drawers: If your washing machine has detergent, bleach, or fabric softener dispenser drawers, remove them and clean them separately. Use warm, soapy water and a microfiber cloth or sponge to scrub away any detergent residue or build-up. Rinse thoroughly and allow them to dry completely.

3. Run a Cleaning Cycle: Set your washing machine to the hottest water setting and the longest cycle. Add two cups of white vinegar to the detergent dispenser or directly into the drum. The vinegar will help disinfect and remove any mold or mildew build-up.

4. Add Baking Soda: After the machine has filled with water, pause the cycle and add one cup of baking soda directly into the drum. Baking soda helps to neutralize odours and remove stains.

5. Scrub the Seals and Gaskets: While the machine is paused, use a microfiber cloth or sponge dipped in a vinegar solution to clean the rubber seals and gaskets around the door. Pay close attention to any mold or mildew build-up, and use an old toothbrush to scrub away stubborn residue.

6. Resume the Cycle: Allow the cleaning cycle to complete, including the agitation and spin cycles. The combination of hot water, vinegar, and baking soda will clean and disinfect the interior of the washing machine.

7. Wipe Down the Exterior: Once the cleaning cycle is finished, use a clean microfiber cloth dampened with water to wipe down the exterior of the washing machine. Pay attention to any control panels or buttons, and clean them with a gentle cleaning solution if necessary.

8. Leave the Door Open to Air Dry: After cleaning, leave the washing machine door open to allow the interior to air dry completely. This helps prevent mold and mildew growth.

9. Regular Maintenance: To keep your washing machine clean and odour-free, repeat this cleaning process every few months or as needed. Additionally, wipe down the door seal and detergent dispenser after each use to prevent moisture build-up.

By following these steps, you can effectively clean your washing machine and keep it running smoothly for years to come.
